New Action with Tutorial - how to convert any image into a soft art paper.

Hi dear readers,
I have a new action in my stores
@ CPD ::: @ DDR ::: @ COMMERCIAL USE

SOFT ART ACTION NR. 7 - DUOCOLOR
Photoshop Action: tested CS3 - CS5 - Convert any paint, photo or image into a multicolor softart background or make a two colors tonal background overlay with light effect in the middle using colors of your choice. CU4CU is allowed!

Any language is OK for this action: english, portuguese, german and russian tested!!

Tutorial
Each photo is unique and need individual adjustments, so I’m going to give you an example of how I worked with this photo:

I put together some flowers and took a picture. The resolution or size of the image doesn’t matter, because for this action we need only the colors and not the sharpness of it.

I used the Crop Tool

and cropped into a square image this photo.
Set these settings into the proprieties bar and drag the position of the crop frame, then hit OK. (width: 3600px x High: 3600px Resolution: 300 dpi).

Like here below:
My image is now sized to a 3600x3600pixels with 300 dpi. But the exposure/shadows/colors are not ideal for the action! To much black/ dark shadows in the image.
You have to do some photo adjustments to take off the black shadows. May be here:
• Levels
• shadows - highlight
• vibrance

And after this, duplicate the image layer and go to Filter > Render > Clouds - define layer blending to SCREEN and opacity to 68%. Now I have the new image like here below (can you see that there are no black shadows?):Open DUOCOLOR action hit play PART 2 of my DUOCOLOR action.
Here is my attempt:
Then go ahead, use other brushes and stroke the document to create unique papers.
Repeat the action with the new image - again and again - until you are happy with it!

Or use any other image from your collection, or scan an image from a painting, or simple paint in ArtRage with your color palette. Any size or resolution. Simple resize to 3600x3600 px a with 300dpi BEFORE you play my second part of the action! Don't be afraid of creating a pile of pixel mush, because the colors are important and the final step of the action will ignore the layer of your original image. All my brushes are used at high resolution, and this is what really makes the difference to create good quality softart paper!

You will get a real high resolution resulting soft art overlay!

Curled Curves template - how to use them

How to use my product, the CURLED CURVES - layered template with png files included. This is a very flexible product, that you can use over and over again in your layouts. Shadows as PS styles are included.
Eu tenho um produto bem versátil e que muitas scrappers gostam de usar e vou explicar como usar o modo MULTIPLY no Photoshop para você usar o seu papel mas manter as minhas dobras marcadas.

Tutorial for Photoshop
Using your own paper ABOVE the curled curves:
If you want the curled effect applied to your own papers - and in order to show the creases and the crinkled effect - you have to use a blend mode, like Overlay, Multiply or Soft Light.
Para obter o efeito amassadinho no seu papel eu usei como exemplo um papel da Maria Designs do kit Honey Bee (maravilhoso). Veja abaixo os modos de sobreposição.

Essas curvas estão prontinhas com sombra aplicada no PSD incluso no produto.

These curves are ready-to-use and with the layered PSD files they have shadow and styles.

Recoloring the Curled Curves
The curves are easy to recolor and here is a layout sample
E aqui uma breve explicação de como recolorir a curva no Photoshop.

To recolor, select first the color of your choice as foreground color.
Escolha antes de mais nada a cor da frente que vc vai aplicar ao papel.
Then go to image > adjustment > hue and saturation and check the little box :colorize.
Em image > adjustment > hue and saturation e marca no box colorize essa opção.

Do not change the first slider, but you can set the second slider (saturation) to the position of your wish and finally, if you need, change the lightness very slightly. I really dont like to use this slider and I prefer the option Levels to change the lightness.
Não toque na primeira barra de cores (pois ele modifica a sua cor) e apenas defina bem a segunda linha dessa janela que é a saturação até achar a cor que mais se assemelha a sua. E finalmente, se necessário, mude ligeiramente a última barra de ajuste que é a claridade. Cuidado - aqui é melhor não mexer muito e deixar para ajustar a claridade no item LEVELS.

First Challenge at Creative Pixels Designs

Ho!Ho!Ho! Christmas is around the corner.... crazy, what? times goes by so quick!!

I'm doing another course at Digital Art Academy - the second part of Art Rage. Wow! You can't believe how enchanted I am with all the possibilities of this program. And also with the sweetness of out teacher, Karen Bonaker.

This is my assignment for the first week and I love doing it!
I used as tracing image an image from the fabulous artist Gustavo Aimar at FLICKR here.

Then I picked the colors using a colorpicker site to generate reference colors.

I also used a textured background from my own under the bird image and made the stroked background and different layers and blending effects. The contour was painted with the black pencil and blended with overlay mode.

Aquarella Freebie and painting backgrounds

bem rapidinho, só para comunicar que tenho um freebie na minha loja NDISB. Veja mais abaixo.
E mais uma dica sobre o Dynamic Auto Painter que é um ótimo programa para fazer a base dos papéis de fundo com efeito de pintura. Depois de rodar o DAP vc pode complementar com minha action nr 6 (a segunda parte da Bird Action) e/ou pintar com brushes para obter lindos efeitos.

I like DAP very much, it is really a starter to make backgrounds and the most amazing part is that you can use reference images to create a new image with different colors.

To find the reference images that comes with the program, you have to click on the little arrow near to the Default Palette (see picture). If you click on ALL you will see many options. And you can also create your own reference image. Very very amazing!

The program will always show this reference image - a little thumbnail close to the original, like my example here.

The Battle of The Brushes - A Batalha dos Brushes

Olá queridas leitoras.

Hi Dear Readers!
I'm participating at the Digital Art Academy to an activity called Open Studio - The Battle of The Brushes and the most amazing part is that we can use any software or combining many programs together, like Painter, PS, Dynamic Auto Painter, Art Rage.

Na Digital Art Academy (DAA) eu me inscrevi para a atividade Open Studio - The Battle of The Brushes - a batalha dos brushes com a professora Karen Bonaker. Essa atividade não está atrelada a nenhum programa de pintura específico. Podemos usar qualquer programa para cumprir uma tarefa. Inclusive usar mais de um programa ou uma combinação de vários programas.

A tarefa: recebemos duas imagens q tivemos de combiná-las e criar dessa combinação uma pintura usando qualquer software ou mesmo a combinação de vários. Tema: Outono
Programas sugeridos pela Karen: Painter, PS, Dynamic Auto Painter, Art Rage.
Both images above where given to us by the teacher and we had to use them for our painting with the thema FALL.

Para a minha pintura eu usei o CS5 para preparar a imagem (1), depois eu rodei a imagem no Dynamic Auto Painter efeito aquarela (2) e voltei para o CS5 e usei a técnica aprendida com o professor Kirk Nelson para pintar fotos e os novos mixer brushes (3) e depois voltei novamente para o Dynamic Auto Painter e rodei um efeito chamado Klimt (4). E, finalmente, para dar acabamento eu combinei no PS a imagem 3 com a 4 - usando máscara e opacidade.
O resultado final está aqui:
The steps
1- I used my own background action and my own brushes to create the basic for the DAP (Dynamic Auto Painter) effect.
Then I added the subject.
2- I took this to DAP and played with Aquarella. (see my other posts here at my blog about Dynamic Auto Painter)
3- Back to PS CS5 and with the painting panel and lessons that I had from DAA teacher Kirk Nelson I did some painting effects (see my further post). Then I sharpened with High Pass.
4- I went back to DAP and played the Klimt effect.
5- Finally I took it back to PS and with the image nr 3 below the nr 4 I used a mask to hide/show some parts of the path and also modified the opacity.

Giraffe Frame Freebie and showing my painting progress

Hi all!
My painting course with the new mixer brushes is very interesting and I'm really in love with them. The first part of the course we had to use a photo as base and painting with the colors of the photo and mixing and blending them to achieve a painting look.
Painting Over a Photograph
The CS5 course with Kirk Nelson at Digital Art Academy you can find here.
This is my brothers little Granddaughter Leticia. I used the picture and followed the steps.
But it was not easy, and my Photoshop also froze and I lost a good part of my work. This was the first time that this happen... may be these brushes and the preview of them is to heavy for my pc.

The Hair was so difficult for me, that I really had to go back and delete everything what I did.
I never did a portrait before, so I used a paint program (dynamic auto painter) to make a sample piece for me and I used this to study the shadows and lightning parts of the face. I also "cheat" a little bit, and used the clone brush to bring the hair and the ball parts in.

The background is from my personal paper/ background action - i used the original colors - and I added it with a soft blending on top of the layers.
Painting your own original Art
In the second part of the course, we had to paint from sketch. We used a pear sketch given to us by our teacher Kirk Nelson. This was really a challenge to learn how these brushes work and here below is my pears painting result:
This was a great exercise, and I love painting the pears.
The detail brush is what I liked most to do in order to give some little enhances to the work!

And I also used one texture blend brush from John Derry's collection (see my further post here at my blog) to add little details.

The canvas is from my personal collection (I did a handmade recycled paper), blended with Kirk's canvas. Thanks for looking!

Freebie - Aquarella Painted Overlays and how to convert a photo into painting

today I'm here to show you my new aquarella sets:

To the set 2 and set 3 I added a white paper in order to let the end result with a real paper effect.
Essas overlays ficam lindas quando vc adiciona um papel com textura. O ideal é um papel branco e para obter um papel branquinho a partir de uma textura sua, eu indico a minha action Make it White!

But you can add any other textured paper to these overlays, and in order to preserve the "real colors" of the overlays, the best result you will obtain with white textured papers. That is why I recommend you to use my white paper action.

Watercolor Effect on your Photos - how to convert a photo into painting

If you are wondering how to convert wonderful photos into paintings, I can tell you that I bought a new software (new for me - LOL) called DYNAMIC AUTO PAINTER and I'm in love with the resulting images.
Se vc quiser converter uma foto em pintura, o seguinte programa que eu comprei é muito bom:
Dynamic Auto Painter - vc tem que instalar o trial e depois inserir o código do produto para ele funcionar sem restrições. Mas vale tentar ver como é o trial antes de comprar.

Important: The resolution and the size of the original image does not affect the output image. So you can give him a small thumbnail and the output can be around 4000 pixels (if you choose so)! My PC Memory run out with these big sizes, but you can download a trial to see if you like it. But you have to insert the keycode in order to use the images.

Dica: não importa a resolução da imagem de origem. O programa cria a sua própria resolução a partir das pinceladas. O resultado é opção do freguês - podendo-se escolher entre pequeno, médio e grande!
Eu coloquei para teste uma imagem bem pequena e o resultado saiu com 4000x4000 pixels e a resolução de 300 dpi. Muito bom!!!

Ah - vc tb pode escolher entre várias composições famosas para ele se "inspirar" e olha q o meu resultado também mudou de cores, conforme o modelo que eu indiquei! Milhões de possibilidades !!!

Hoje vou falar do efeito da imagem refletida na água. Veja esse reflexo do pássaro na água...

Esse efeito pode ser usado também para a sombra refletida - quando o solo não é água.Para esse tutorial eu usei o maravilhoso kit da Alevtina - veja na loja da DDR que tem hoje uma super Grab Bag FREE (mais detalhes no final desse post) e ali vc tb vai encontrar um coupon de desconto para comprar esse kit maravilhoso!!!

Passo a Passo:
abra a imagem que vc vai usar para refletir e dê um FLIP VERTICAL nela, deixando ela na forma espelhada.
E em EDIT > TRANSFORM opte por DISTORT:
E deforme e achate a imagem refletida, lembrando de dar uma leve perspectiva, onde o q fica mais próximo do nosso olhar é maior do que as patinhas do pássaro q estão mais afastadas.
Depois deixe a opacidade da imagem refletida com ca. de 42%
E eu ainda acrescentei um leve embaçado (Blur) em FILTER> BRLUR> GAUSSIAN BLUR
Veja a intensidade do blur: aqui é de 4,0 pixels
E para fazer a sombra refletida em solo sem reflexo, vc pode selecionar a imagem do seu layer principal e - criando um novo layer - preencher com um marrom escuro #5b511a
e depois deformar essa imagem (com a mesma ferramenta DISTORT descrita acima)
E com a ferramenta BLUR - intensidade 8 aproximadamente - embaçar e alterar a opacidade para ca. de 42 %
Pronto!!!

New Tutorial with Challenge and great prizes!

Here is a new challange for August. As usual we always try to give you a fun time scrapping.

This month's RAK is the following:

1 - Create a page with products from both of us (either Maria's, mine or both).
2 - Use the newest tutorial by me (scroll down or visit this tuto at DDR here).

3 - The page should have at least 2 different sized photos + title and date.

THEME for THIS MONTH: As it's DDR's birthday I thought we could fill the gallery with birthday pages (can be an old birthday party, a recent one, from yourself, parents, sons and daughters, grandchildren, siblings, a friend, just focus on a special birthday in your life to follow the theme.)

Tutorial
Creating and Shadowing a Bend Photo Effect
Technique for Designers and Scrappers: Selection, Warp tool, Layer Effects, Clipping Mask.

When you create a layout - and you intend to simulate staples of photos, you may want to create this realistic bend effect with the corresponding shadows. See this sample:

The shadows and how to turn them into convex or concave shapes without image distorting is very important.

I use PS CS3 and first of all, I will show you here how to achieve this effect in this program (CS2 and newer versions can take advantage of this tutorial also). At the end of this post, you will find some tips and tricks for other programs also.

So. let's start this step by step in Adobe Photoshop CS3:

1st Step
Open a Photo and make a retangular selection - smaller than your orignal photo - and create a new layer under your photo layer and fill this selection with any color of your choice.

2nd Step:
Go to Edit > transform > warp and change the shape to a convex or concave image format by dargging the little solid dots represent handles that will modify the courves.
Any of the lines (paths, splines) or anchors can be dragged to where you want them.
3rd Step (OPTIONAL - using manual shadowing)
Now we can add shadow manually by selecting the shape and creating a layer below and filling with a dark brown (not black) color. I think that dark brown shadows are more realistic than pure black.
And now you have to blur - filter >blur> gaussian blur> and set it between 4 and 14 depending on the image size you are using. Go directly to step 6.

4th Step - using DROP SHADOW
hit with the right mouse button on the layer palette, and open the Drop Shadow menu.
Choose the settings that you most like, or use mine here below, but remember that these settings can vary - depending on the image size you are using.
5th Step - create a new layer from the layer effect (fx icon)
right click on the little fx icon in the layer palette and hit the option CREATE LAYER.
Skip this step if you did the step 3.

6th Step
Edit > transform > rotate this layer 180º

7th Step
Let's go again to edit> transform> warp and drag the lines and dots in order to hide the unwanted edges.

8th Step
Now we are going to clip our photo to this concave/ convex shape. Click with your right mouse button on the photo layer and choose from the menu the create clipping mask option. (or hit CTRL +Alt+G)
If needed, adjust the size of your shape to the photo size.
9th Step: adding a Border to your Photo.
To add a border, simple choose the Stroke effect from the layer effect options (fx icon in the layer palette.
Here is the end result:
Tip - for other program users:
use the pen tool to create a concave or convex shape form.
Make a rectangle shape and use the direct selection tool to edit the curves and edges.

Duplicate, rotate and use Gaussian Blur (values around 8) to create the shadow layer.

How to Get Light into Your Layout or Lighten up a Paper

How to Get Light into Your Layout
Technique Used - for Designers and Scrappers: Selection, Gradient Fill, Wave and Blending

Gradient Overlay
1. - Open any paper 3600x3600- 300 dpi
2. - create a new layer
3. - set foreground color to a light gray like this here #e9ebee
4. - set the background color to a dark gray like here: #949494
5. - pick the round selection tool and set the feather to 250
6. - create a big circle in the new layer with the selection tool

7. - set the fill tool to gradient and choose the round option
8. - fill the selection with the gradient (center your mouse and drag diagonally to the lower edge)

9. - Deselect

Distort
I find that this is too regular for a lightning gradient overlay, so let's make it a little bit irregular:

10. - go to filter > wave this gradient in order to distort a little bit this round area.

Filter > Distort > Wave (click the image below to enlarge)
Type - Sine is marked.
Number of generations: 1
Wavelenght: 556 - 561
Amplitude 94 - 318
Scale 100%
- Repeat Edge Pixels is marked
Enlarge this layer:
11. Now set this layer to a bigger size: 140% - select the layer, hit ctrl + T and set Width and High to 140% (or something like this - play with this setting)

Layer Blending:
12. set this layer to OVERLAY and change the opacity slider to about 63%

So, you wann be a Digital Scrapbooking Designer?

Hi, my dear and loyal readers.

If you want to become a good digi scrap designer, you have to work hard. Offering good quality, being creative and also being constant is very important. Having this in mind, you can start!!

The Tools:
You need an image editor, and I suggest Photoshop. And to create swirls and floral design, I love to use the Illustrator (vector editing program).
A good digital Camera to take high quality photos and a scanner.
I use my Nikon Coolpix 8800 that has a good macro to take great photos of small elements.

The Support:
There are many scrapbooking sites where you can find tutorials and designer tips. I will recommend you here 2 places that I like and know the people that teach there:

The First Kit:
If you want to create a first kit, then first think about a theme and the colors. Flickr is a great inspirational resource.
Make the elements by yourself!
Go to the market and buy some real flowers to extract!

hello!! here am I at my home in São Paulo, sending my readers a flower hug!!

And extract these flowers in order to add them to your designer stash. You can also recolor the flower.... like my example below. At Digidesignresort you will find a sample video on how to do this. And this background paper I did with my soft art paper action that I sell also at Digidesignresort.

Find paper and cut it out, fold, wave and create paper flowers. The best color for me is pink - that is an easy color to recolor the element in Phothoshop after extracting it!

The Exquisite Crane

Hi, dear Readers:
4 weeks already gone in a fly!! My ArtRage course is ending today!!!
The natural elegance and grace of the crane birds are exquisitely and fascinates me.

In this painting I put everything we learned together.
This was a 4-week course at the Digital Art Academy with Karen Bonaker.

I used a traced image,

and painted the bird in Art Rage using tracing colors. When the bird was finished, I saved as png and transported it into Photoshop, where I selected the bird by outline and filled with red to achieve a bird shape. Saved this as a png file( I name it mask-1) and imported to layer in ArtRage. This layer you can always convert into mask at one mouse click in the selection menu options.

For the background I used one of my Photoshop masks which I saved as a png file and converted into a stencil.
Now I could paint the background without worrying to modify the original bird painting because the bird layer was protected with the selection. I used the stencil in the layer below and painted the background using the rule of opposite colors, like Karin told us to do. Layers blending was also used at this point to soften the background.

The Shadow:
I distorted and added a perspective to the mask-1 from the bird in Photoshop

and saved again as png file and imported back to layer in ArtRage. With a lower opacity and a color burn blend mode effect on this shadow layer, my work was finished.

Art Rage Stencils and free vintage ephemera links

Hi dear readers:
I love the vintage look in scrapbooking, and I tried to make a stencil in Art Rage with a bird illustration. The result was so beautiful, that I want to share this here:

To create a stencil it is not difficult. Simple click on stencils and add a new group with your name, then choose import stencil and choose any image from your folders. Black and white illustrations work very well and you have to leave a big white frame border in order to achieve good results.

Please comment, if you like my tips! I love so much to receive comments. That moves me to going on and share interesting tips and tutorials with you!

Watercolor course!! Wow!!

This is a very short post - but I want to share this with you: Fatima (aka fafbr - my scrap friend) and I are taking watercolor painting lessons with Karen Bonaker at Digital Art Academy with ArtRage software.

Wow, that is so interesting, I never thought that we could get such beautiful results with ArtRage!! I really recommend!

Today we are in our second week (from a total of 4 weeks), and each week we have assignments and live webinars meetings.

Coloring Doodles - colorindo Doodles

Olá meninas e meninos (hehe, essa é pro Renan!!)
Hi, people!

Today I will show you how to color a hand drawn artwork. Lets take this bird here (drawn by myself) as sample. You can use my bird, or draw something by yourself.
The Steps:
first open a drawing png file (I have some in my store for CU and CU4CU) or simple download my file.
use the ROUND BRISTLE BRUSH (or download my brush) to paint with 50% opacity one simple base area.
Then set the proprieties of this brush to MULTIPLY and 17% opacity.
Paint over the areas to get volume effects.
Then you have to select individual areas and with the magic wand. Go to hue and saturation and recolor using always the foreground color as reference.
Delete the areas that you dont want.Make a white layer under the bird and delete again the outside area. Ready to go!

Hoje eu vou mostrar um tutorial bem simples e rápido de como vcs podem recolorir um desenho feito por vcs de maneira bem fácil.

Vocês já viram meu tutorial como fazer esses desenhos, com todos so truques, né?
Então vamos partir de uma imagem em preto e branco e que é .png com fundo transparente.
Se não souber como fazer isso, volte lá no tuto anterior e veja as dicas.

Abra a imagem no Photoshop e selecione o ROUND BRISTLE BRUSH ou instale o meu brush (que está incluído no freebie acima). São quase iguais, sendo que no meu brush eu modifiquei um pouco os atributos do round Bristle Brush.

Defina esse brush com 50% de transparencia e passe sobre o seu desenho com pinceladas, mas sem soltar o botão do mouse, para não saturar a cor.

Depois, com a mesma cor e o mesmo brush, mude ele na barra de propriedades para 17% de opacidade (transparencia) e altere o modo dele de normal para Multiply!

Volte a pintar sobre o seu desenho, criando as sombras e nuances tridimensionais!

Depois clique na layer do desenho (para não errar e pintar essa camada sem querer, clique no cadeado, para deixá-la protegida).

E selecione a área externa do pássaro com essaa varinha mágica. Vá para a camada da pintura (azul) e clique no teclado em delete. (antes disso eu gosto de aumentar a seleção em um pixel para maior conforto)

Agora vamos recolorir as áreas que queremos com o Hue e Saturation. Para isso, primeiro vc tem que definir na paleta qual a cor que vc quer. Volte para a camada do desenho e selecione a área da asa com a varinha mágica.

e depois de selecionada - VOLTE PARA A CAMADA AZUL (a da pintura) e clique em

image > HUE AND SATURATION e clique na caixinha COLORIZE

Pronto, tudo muito rápido e fácil. Faça a mesma coisa com o rabinho e qualquer outra área que deseja mudar de cor. Sempre lembrando que para selecionar tem que ir na CAMADA do DESENHO e para colorir tem q estar na camada AZUL (da pintura).

Agora crie uma camada branca em baixo de seu pássaro

e na camada do desenho selecione novamente a camada de fora e reduza em um pixel.

Delete na camada branca para que o pássaro fique bem colorido e com a base branca.

Pronto!

Depois de terminar e salvar o seu trabalho, não esqueça de voltar o seu brush para o modo normal, senão na próxima vez que usá-lo vc pode estranhar o efeito da pintura.

Color Tutorial for Designers

For beginners, it is not easy to create a harmonic color palette. A digital scrapbooking kit with a tonal harmony catches the customers eyes immediately!

So I’m going to give you some useful tips. This is not a color theory lesson, these you can find all over the web and I recommend you to do so.

To find a color palette for you first kit, I recommend that you pick up 5 colors. I will show you how to find a tonal harmony. At the end we will have a result with 8 or 10 colors.

First Step: Pick a picture from a magazine or a beautiful image that inspires you.

I used an image that I found at Flickr for my example:

Next step: at www.kuler.com you can pick the five colors from that image.

Like mine here:

Kuler is a great tool, you have to sign in or register in order to use the site. You can move the little dots inside of the picture and pick any color you want! Go ahead and play with colors!

Next step:

How to create a TONAL color swatch. You will need a grayscale image with a range of tonal values. (save my image below to your hard drive).

Pick the first color (green), open it in photoshop. Also save my tonal grayscale image here and apply the green color to become a variety of green tonal options.

Open the grayscale image, set foreground color to the first color (green) and in the menu choose: image> adjustments>hue and saturation

Now repeat this step to the other 4 colors. The result will look like here:

The next step has an very important theory: a good contrast or a good tonal variety is important. The two extreme tones or values are very dark and very light. Successful swatches for digital scrapbooking kits have tonal contrast in them, or a range of values.

From my 5 color swatches above I ended up with 8 colors, see below:

Dessaturate your colors to see if your tonal values have a variety of value ranges! This here looks very good!

Extracting a Photo and adding a Radial Blur.effect - in English & em portugues

Hoje vou mostrar a vocês como extrair uma foto e dar um efeito muito interessante.

Today I will show you how to extract and add an radial blur effect to a photo:

Abra a foto no Photoshop e aumente ela até 300% no zoom. Esse detalhe é MUITO importante, porque assim vc extrai a foto sem aqueles recortes duros com angulos pontudos e evidentemente feios.

Depois do zoom a 300% vc usa a ferramenta de seleção polygonal, defina 1px de feather, e vai clicando lentamente e contornando em passos relativamentes pequenos a imagem.

Atenção: faça sempre por etapas, fechando a seleção a cada 15 cliques para ir limpando/deletando as partes extraidas de sua imagem.

Open the photo in PS and zoom it to 300%. This is important in order to avoid uggly edges. Use polygonal lasso tool with 1px feather. Keep short clicks and close your selection many times, and delete these parts. don't try to do everything at once, because you can loose you hard work!

Depois de finalizada, a sua imagem deve parecer assim:

When you are finished the image will look so, like mine here:
Agora selecione essa imagem (use ctrl e clique no ícone da layer)

Select the image
Em Selection (no Menu) escolha SELECT>modify>FEATHER e defina um valor em torno de 50% - 70% (experimente) e depois volte em SELECT e invert selection.

SELECT>modify>Feather it with 50%-70% - and than invert selection
E agora em Filter > BLUR> RADIAL BLUR com os settings abaixo

Go to FILTER> BLUR> RADIAL BLUR, with the following settings:

Com isso vc vai ter um efeito de sombra dinamicamente rodada assim:

Tutorial: How to Make Elf Wings in Photoshop

You will work with

- Threshold
- Flip
- Solid Color Layer
- Opacity and
- Fill Layer effect

Go to a park or to your garden and pick 2 different formed leaves.

Scan the leaves upside down, extract and cut with the polygonal lasso a wing format.
Duplicate the leaves and flip them (edit> transform> flip horizontal) in order to have 4 objects.

Save this part of your work. So you can go back any time you need.

Duplicate all 4 layers and hide the original leaves. You will need them later. Go to Image >Adjustments > THRESHOLD and see the settings below.

Now go to Image >Adjustments >INVERT and then select the whit areas (use magic wand – uncheck the continuous box – or select color range) and delete. At this point you can refine edges, or make other adjustments.
Create a new fill layer (Layer> New Fill Layer >Solid Color Layer) and check the bocx to clip with the previus layer in order to recolor your leaf.
Go to the original leaf (one or the hidden layers) and select the form. In a new layer, fill it with the color of your choice and set a stroke effect. Now set the fill to 50% more or less.
Attention: if you set the layer opacity to 50% the stroke will also look transparent. If you set the FILL to 50% – the stroke will remain non-transparent!

Add a charmed heart or a felted leaf and save your work!

Continuing to talk about Postage Sheet, here is how you can tear the edges of your frame. Follow the steps in my further post.

Then select the area you would transform with the selection tool and go to >EDIT > TRANSFORM> DISTORT or SKEW

Drag and drop to the right.

You can also make an irregular selection with the polygonal selection tool and distort:

Sempre vou procurar postar em português para vocês, mas muitas vezes meus tutoriais são auto-explicativos pelo passo a passo que eu crio e dá pra ver as imagens e adivinhar os comandos - não é? E também temos o tradutor do google que tá ali do lado e ajuda um pouco!!

Hoje vamos ver como se faz uma moldura pra 4 fotos simulando uma folha de selos.

Hi, my dear readers!

Today I'm going to show you how to make a Postage Paper Frame for 4 photos.

First of all, open a new document, 2500 x 2500 pixels and 300 dpi! Then set the rulers in order for us to control the straight brush strokes.

2- See the blue guide lines below that you set by click and drag them from the rules.

3- CREATE A NEW LAYER! Don't forget to create this new layer.

4- Click on the Brush tool and open your brush layer palette (F7)
5- And set the brush like these settings here below:

6- Now you have to click on the Brush Tool and position it on the blue guide line.

7- Click once and then hold shift and click again nearly to the end of the guide line.

Automatically PS will stroke with spaced dots the whole line.
8- Duplicate this layer and turn it 90º . Drag the duplicated layer to the right. The position has to be exact when the two dots on the corner are overlayed.

9- Go ahead with the layer duplicating and the positioning on the exact place. Zoom the document in order to see it better. Hit [CTRL] and [+]
Open a paper and drag it into your work below the dot layers. See my result here when I opened a paper and underlayered it here:
Create a NEW LAYER for the photo windows.

Now select the retangle shape tool and make ONE rectangle in the inside of the dots. Duplicate the rectangle layer and position it to the right side. Repeat until you have all six done.
Merge these rectangle layers.
(select the layers and with the right mouse button choose merge selected layers)
Select the new rectangles layer by holding the CTRL key and clicking on the layer icon in the layer palette. Go to the paper layer and hit DELETE.

merge all dot layers and do the same: Select the DOT layer by holding the CTRL key and clicking on the layer icon in the layer palette. Go to the paper layer and hit DELETE.
We are done!!!

How to Advertise with an Animated Banner in Scrapbooking Digital

Hi, girls

SNT was the shop that I felt in love the first moment I saw it and when Carolyn accepted me to be a designer there I was really grateful and proud of this opportunity. This was nearly one year ago.
Since them we had a very great time as SNT Designer team and all the wonderful collab we did made us friends!

Now Carolyn had to close this shop and I'm very sad about this. But I understand her reasons and hope that we will find a new great place that we can call our scrap-home like this.

And like babys, that come to renew our world with new life and happiness, I'm also very proud to announce that I was accepted to a new shop:

Tutorial Animated Banner in Photoshop

I'm learning how to make an animated banner in Photoshop CS3.
So I asked Google to help me and I found some a great tutorials.
To become a basic idea, make this here first:

Using Photoshop and Imageready (or use only CS3 - ImageReady is incorporated in Filter>Animation), you can easily design animated banners for advertising campaigns.

And here is the result of my lessons:

How to make quality check on elements

Hi, People!! I'm here to answer a question to a new designer.
She wants to know how to do the quality check on her elements!

when I finish an element, I always check if it has hidden strays or pixels that our eye cannot see. When the customer is going to do the layout, on shadowing the element, she will blame you!!

Here is the element, apparently clean (but it has hidden strays)

Now you add shadow, all pixels will get the darker shadow, and also the hidden ones:
How to avoid this, is very easy, using Photoshop:
On the layer palette - double click to open the layer styles and than click on the Stroke option.

Set the stroke to any number above 5.

your element will look like here below:
Now you have to clean it with the Polygonal Lasso Tool. Make sure you are working with a very high zoom(minimum 100% up to 300%) in order to get better selected areas.
Now hit delete and go ahead until you are done with the whole areas. When you are finished, don't forget to delete the stroke and save your element.

Na action de papéis brancos eu explico em inglês que o papel branco, além de estar muito na moda do scrap, ele também é muito prático para dar textura a papéis coloridos sem que a cor fique desbotada ou mesmo muito pálida, perdendo assim a sua luminosidade. Abaixo tem um passo a passo bem simples e fácil de seguir, mesmo que esteje em inglês!!

Hi, folks!

New Action: Make it White!! With bonus textured papers to combine and make extra special papers with unique effects! New @ my stores: SNT= DDR= CCreate = NDISB = HM Shop
Did you ever have created a pretty pattern design, with bold colors, and when you add textured and folded paper, these bold colors looked absolutely pale or mat??

My secret: use white textured paper in order to preserve original colors and add texture effects. In this case, the blending mode has to be MULTIPLY!

Tutorial: see my step by step:

1 - create a pattern design ...

... and open a textured paper to overlay

2- Run my White Action (from Silke Papierstudio)
on any solid paper in order to get a white textured paper.
Overlay the pattern with blend mode MULTIPLY

That’s it! So easy!! I think, that this is a very handy tip!

Obs.: if you don’t use the white texture, the paper will appear that they have loose their color luminosity, like below:

How to make 3D Letters with Illustrator:
Como fazer o efeito 3D em Letras, usando o Adobe Illustrator
And continuing the 3 D effects tutorial, now doing it with Illustrator:

Above is the sample for a word with one direct 3D effect and below, a sample where each letter became an individual and different 3D effect.
Acima tem um exemplo de uma palavra inteira com o efeito 3D e abaixo um exemplo onde cada letra recebe um efeito 3D individual e de direção diferente.

Adobe Illustrator:
You have to open a new document (web document - 300 dpi):
abra o Adobe Illustrator conf. abaixo:
And open the character set - ctrl + T - abra a caixa de texto (use a tecla CTRL + T)
Set the font to IMPACT - size 200 pt

And write the word you want to give the effect: I wrote July.
Change color (window > Swatches) of the font to an orange or other color (light colors - not dark!!)
Escreva a palavra JULY (ou qq palavra) e abra a caixa das cores (swatches) e clique na cor laranja. (window > Swatches)

Now go to Effect > 3D > Extrude and Bevel

And set the options like here below (you can click the image to see larger). Siga conf. abaixo
To create a messy letter block, you have to create only one letter at time and apply different 3 D effect for each. In the dialog box click on the 3D block icon and drag and rotate. Play with the settings.
Click and change the color as many times you wish! (or the font).
Para criar uma série de letras com efeitos 3D de diferentes direções vc tem que aplicar o efeito letra por letra. Escreva apenas uma letra e altere cada vez a direção do extrude clicando no ícone do cubo da caixa de diálogo e arraste e gire à vontade. Vá brincando com o efeito. Altere a cor e a fonte sempre que quiser aqui.

We are going to move all letters in order to mantain a distance between them, and to save as a PNG file (with transparent background) So you can later easily cut out each letter to work with individual files in Photoshop.
Antes de passar o arquivo para o Photoshop vc tem que separar um pouco as letras, facilitando para que possam ser recortadas individualmente! Clique na seta PRETA e arraste cada letra.
Se vc criou uma palavra inteira, faça espaços entre letras!
Now go to File - EXPORT - arquivo exportar
and set the file type option to PNG... como PNG com fundo transparente
...with transparent background, like image below:
Close Illustrator - saving the file. Important:
KEEP YOUR ILLUSTRATOR FILE AS A BASIC WORK FILE:
Remember to save your work in Illustrator, because this is an important vector file and allow font changes and resizing. You can go back any time and make new 3D work with other settings and other fonts.
Salve seu trabalho no Illustrator e sempre que quiser criar um novo bloco de texto em 3D esse arquivo vai servir como base. Altere cores e fonte e vc terá outro resultado!!

1- clique em formatar word art – FORMAT WORDART
2- clique em efeitos de preenchimento – more effects
3- clique em selecionar imagem e procure o seu papel – set your paper Como mudar a forma: CHANGING THE FORM
1- clique na letra – choose an letter
2- aplique um formato – apply new form

Como trocar a extrusão: HOW TO CHANGE THE 3D EFFECT
1- na barra de ferramentas DESENHO – on the drawing toolbox
2- clique em estilos 3D (ao lado da sombra) – choose 3D styles
3- aplique a opção de extrusão (3D) – apply the style of your choice

Save your power point as jpg file, or copy and paste each letter into Photoshop or any vector or photo editing programm.
Salve seu power point. Eu costumo copiar e colar no Illustrator cada letra individualmente, e depois copio e colo no Photoshop. Isso facilita, pois o arquivo fica separado do fundo e facilmente poderá ser salvo como png. Depois eu apliquei sombras a cada letra.

I love to draw swirls, doodles, frames and flowers with my Bamboo Pen Tablet.
Fiz uma série de DOODLES no Illustrator e passei para o Photoshop.

How to create a flower doodle in illustrator and recolor in Photoshop

I'll show you step by step, how to create a doodle in Illustrator and recolor in Photoshop with a Pen Tablet:

Some people, using Illustrator first time, reported that the pencil tool always was selected and mostly the lines disappeared once they draw second ones.
In order to avoid this, I've figured out that you have to set the pencil options different: if they don't keep the pencil lines selected, you can draw a new line without being afraid that they could disappear!!

Muitas pessoas tentam desenhar no illustrator e ficam estranhando que as linhas desenhadas logo somem ao desenharmos a linha seguinte. Para evitar isso, vamos mudar a configuração lápis, conforme abaixo.

Ok, let's do it:

Open a new document in Illustrator. The size depends of what you intend to do. I recommend the Scrapbooking size 3600px x 3600px with 300dpi new doc.
Novo Documento

Set the pencil options like here(double click on the pencil icon):
Clique duplo no LÁPIS - abre as opções dele e vc pode alterar como segue:
Take you pen tablet and draw! (see my video tutorial below)
E agora vc pode desenhar à vontade!

Than, select your doodle (with the black arrow). Copy it. Open Photoshop, make a new document, 3600 x 3600 pixels, and paste it. When asked, choose smart object and save this file. Make a copy of this document in Photoshop and rasterize the layer in order to recolor!

Now you can resize to 2500px the document in order to make brushes. (Edit > define brush preset).

Ao finalizar seu desenho, selecione tudo com a setinha preta. Editar> copiar. Abra o Photoshop e em File > New > crie um novo documento com 3600 x 3600 pixels. Depois clique em EDITAR > COLAR. Ao ser perguntado, opte por SMART OBJECT. Salve esse documento como PSD. Duplique, rasterize (clicando com o botão direito sobre o layer) o layer e colorize à vontade.

Você também pode criar brushes, mas para isso tem que redimensionar o documento para 2500 pixels.

Tutorial MASKS with sample included!

Todas nós estamos adorando trabalhar com photo masks, e podemos achar muitos layouts lindos espalhados pelas diversas galerias de scrap online!!

Veja como trabalhar com uma mask - por exemplo:
1- abra um papel no photoshop e a primeira mask - a PAPER MASK - que é a base da foto.
Coloque a MASK na camada exatamente em cima do papel.
2- E mude o blending para "overlay", veja na figura abaixo.

open a paper of your choice and my paper mask in Photoshop. The mask have to be in the layer above the paper! Change blending mode to "overlay".
Agora eu peguei outra mask, a PHOTO MASK - que combina com a anterior - e adicionei na camada por cima da anterior.
Now please open the Photo Mask (also from my sample) and put it above the first mask.

E agora vc abre a foto na camada de cima seguinte e com ctrl + alt + g faz a clipping mask da foto com a camada de baixo. Veja:
Open the Photo (in the upper layer) and with ctrl + alt + g clip the photo with the round mask!
Pronto! Capriche no layout!
Ready!

Oh, Yes! a Tutorial with a gift!

Do you know how to change a color of a doodle easily and many times?
Let's do this by adding a New Fill Layer (for this tutorial I used PS CS3)

I have drawn a butterfly using a black ballpoint pen with consistent tracing lines on a transparent paper. Than I scanned at 600 dpi. I didn't clean up the inside of my drawn in order to get a interesting effect.

1- open in PS a drawn doodle (you can download my butterfly by clicking on the image)

2- and open a textured paper - like this here (you can download by clicking on the image):
3- make sure you have converted the background into layer (double click on the backg and choose new layer from background).

4-go to the paper layer and hit [ctrl]+ [G] to create Clipping Mask with the layer below, like here:
5- and change the blending mode to MULTIPLY.

6-set your foreground color to #8832cc - or what you like.

7- Now you go back to the bottom layer (the butterfly in my example) and select > LAYER> NEW FILL LAYER> Solid Color (you can try later with GRADIENT COLOR)!
Confirm these settings here:

And hit ok, and ok again.

8- Now you have to change the blend mode of this layer to SCREEN.

9- Now you have to got IMAGE > duplicate> AND choose a new color by double clicking on the color icon of the fill color layer! This way you can easily change the colors. Save each image as .png file and go ahead to the next color!

10- Suggestion: make stickers or make a pattern paper from your colored doodles!
This is a useful Commercial Use Product for you, as a NSD present (only until May 5th) - this tutorial is included as PDF file!!

How to create Sunburst Brush

Hi, my dear readers. Today the post will be in English. (please, forgive my bad English. I'm fluent in German and Portuguese, but still learning English!)

The actual trend is to create lightning effects at the paper, like sunbrust. Here I'll show you how to create a brush, that you can use over and over again in your layouts!

First of all, open a new document, 2500 x 2500 pixels and fill with black and white gradient.
2- Now you choose Filter> Distort > Wave with the settings here below:

3- your actual document will look like this here below:

4- Now we go back to FILTER effects, and choose Filter > Distort > Shear

and the final image is here:
5- Creating the Brush:
Go to Edit > define brush preset... and name it "my sunburst".

6- Open your paper (3600 x 3600) and apply the brush in a new layer. If you wish so, you can resize the brush to 3600 pixels to fit your paper. Modify the blend mode and the opacity, until you are happy with the results.

Fazendo Ondas e mais Dicas para o Scrap

hoje eu vou mostrar para vocês como fazer uma Ondinha, de forma bem simples e direta no Photoshop. Eu usei o meu PS CS3.

1- Crie um novo documento 3600 x 3600 com 300 dpi.
2- forme um círculo com a selection tool e preencha com branco.
3 -duplique o círculo e preencha com outra cor, apenas pra facilitar a visualização.
4- modifique a posição do círculo da camada de cima e selecione ele.
5- delete da camada de baixo. Deixando sobrar uma forma de lua crescente.

6- selecione a lua e em editar, transformar, escolha WRAP.

7- arraste as pontas e as laterais até formar uma onda.

8- Duplique e pronto!!

Nem vou falar do pó que está este blog...rsrs pq meu tempo é curtinho e quero falar muito de SCRAPBOOKING DIGITAL.

Fevereiro também é o mês do Carnaval - chamado de Mardi Gras (expresão em francês que significa terça-feira gorda = Fat Tuesday).
